What’s for breakfast?  What’s for lunch?  What’s for dinner?  This week’s menu is one of my favorites.  Here are my picks for this week to really stretch your dollars.  These selections will feed two people for about $15 a day per person (excl. delivery and tax). That’s breakfast, lunch & dinner.  What a deal!

Breakfast:  Fruit & Protein Bowl with Sesame Honey Tofu – I get two servings out of this.  Anytime Burrito and a Fruit Bowl – I get two servings out of these.

Lunch:         Mushroom Barley Soup – If it’s hot out, I eat this lukewarm.  It’s good for breakfast, too!  Tofu or Cranberry Sandwich – Order two of these to go with a cup of soup, stretching it out for two days.

Dinner:        Italian Spinach Patties with a side of Green Goddess Salad – I get two servings out of these, too.  Coconut Basil dish, either Chicken or Tofu – Serve this with the Basmati Rice Pilaf and Seasonal Veggies – Two plus servings out of this combo!

Snacks:        Old-Fashioned Roasted Potato Salad and the Black Eyed Pea & Wild Rice Salad to fill in here and there, and of course both of the cookies!!!

October brings back two soups per week, beginning next week with a choice of our Herbed Lebanese Stew or Gypsy Vegetable Soup.  Yum!  We’re also introducing our new sandwich, the Italiano Foccacia with Mozzarella Sandwich.  You’ll need to make the difficult decision between Pepperoni or Grilled Spicy Eggplant on this little gem, though.

Have a wonderful week!

As a kid, summer was filled with hot summer days, hot summer nights, fire flies lighting up the sky, and stoking up the barbecue every evening.  I remember the rotisserie that roasted a whole chicken, and the sound of sauce dripping onto hot coals making that sizzle.  I also remember the beans, onions, garlic, tomato sauce and molasses, slow baked all day.  And the potato salad made by all us kids, with Mom supervising of course.  Well, those are my all time favorites on this week’s menu.  My recommendation is one of the BBQ’d dishes (chicken, tempeh or all veggies) and definitely the Bishop Baked Beans and Old Fashioned Roasted Potato Salad.  But there’s more, much more…

I absolutely love our Cantonese Sauce.  It’s so light and lovely with either chicken, tofu or all veggies.  The baby Bok Choy highlights the dish very nicely, and really lends to the presentation.  Our Market Fresh Fruit Bowls are as lovely as ever because of our new chef, Carly.  The layers of fresh fruit are very pleasing to the eye and palate.  And last but not least, my favorites are the Anytime Burrito and the Black Bean Burrito.  No matter how many I make in a week, they never fail as my fall-back to a healthy, nutritious and filling meal.

By the way, send me an email by August 7th 2011, mention “Summer Memories” and share one of your childhood summer memories, and I’ll send you a $5.00 Discount Voucher that you can use on a future order.

Bon Apetit to all!

Just the other day, I had a new customer ask me “What would you order off your menu?”  My immediate answer was “Good question!”  I don’t think I’ve ever heard that question before, and it’s such an important one!  I mean, if I steer away from certain menu items, well that’s a bad sign, don’t you think?

Truth be told, I do steer away from some items, but only because I’m a vegetarian.  If I did eat animal protein, I would certainly opt for our chicken dishes.  They are very moist and flavorful, if I do say so myself.  But in pondering the question, I thought of the following scenarios that just may help future orderers.  Here are my picks for this coming week, July week 3:

If I was single, I’d order one of the Tofu Shawarmas.  The combination of the slightly spicy sauce with the cooling cucumber/tomatoes and brown rice is lovely.  The amount of food is right for the money, too.  One order will do me just fine for two meals.  I’d order a Green Goddess Salad with the Greek Tamari Dressing, good enough for two side salads.  I’d order one each of the Baked Chicken Tofu over Roasted Veggies and the Basmati Fresh Herb Bowl.  That’d take care of two lunches.  I’d definitely order one each of the Olivetta Rolls (they’re lovely) and Chocolate Apricot Espresso Cookies (they’re addicting).  And I’d most likely throw in a couple Anytime Burritos because I love them so much.  They last me from morning to early afternoon!

If I was a couple, I’d pretty much order the same but up the quantity by one.  I would then hide the extra order of Chocolate Apricot Espresso Cookies from my significant other!  That’s just the way I am.

If I had kids, I’d throw in an order of Seasonal Veggies.  They’re great for snacking in the car.  I’d also order the Egg and Quinoa Salad Bowl.  Kids love it!

So there you have it.  Vickie’s Picks for this week.  Bon Appetit!

Here at the Dancing Women Kitchen, there are many reasons why I love my job of cooking healthy and nutritious meals for my clients.  The one that makes my day, though, is knowing that we help seniors stay independent.  One of our clients just celebrated her 95th birthday!  She loves the variety of food on our menu (especially the cookies) and looks forward to the visit with our delivery driver every week.

Another of our seniors just sent this email:

“Hi Vickie, I just wanted to tell you how attractive your food has been lately.  The salads and veggies are especially colorful.  Not only tasty but beautiful.  I tried the South of the Border wrap and it was delicious.  The Olivetta Rolls are great.  The snap peas in the Coconut Tofu were so fresh and crunchy, a good combination.  You are doing such a good job of providing me with healthy meals.  Thank you!!!!”

If only more of the elder community would consider healthy home delivery options instead of frozen entrees from grocery stores jam packed with sodium and trans fat.  Perhaps they would stay healthy in mind and body a little longer.  Bottom line, eat healthy food, get moderate exercise, drink plenty of water, stay independent!

Our burritos and sandwiches are flying off the shelves in local coffee and juice shops! Choose from our Quinoa Breakfast Burrito, Black Bean and Rice Burrito, or Pesto Sandwich. YUM!

Until then, check out our May menu for very yummy items — breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks.  And look for Cheese Cake Bites on our June menu!  Yay!

So I’ve always thought of myself as a little “out there”, a little “quirky”, a “there’s a light in the attic, but no one’s home” at times.  But crazy?  I beg to differ.  Here are a few things from my point of view that describe crazy.  These are legitimate observations, scary to say.

Opting for a drive thru restaurant.  Eating dirt.  Crossing Aurora Avenue other than at a cross walk.  Crossing Aurora Avenue near the Seattle Center at rush hour.  Crossing Aurora Avenue, not at a designated cross walk, with baby and toddler in tow.  Aaagh!

Where’s a cop when you need one?!?  Probably at a drive thru…eating dirt.  Ouch!

and I always look forward to it.  Monday and Tuesday is such a rush at the DW Kitchen with all of the cooking, packaging and delivery routes.  Wednesday is a tad more laid back, but I tell ya’….. by Wednesday evening?  Let’s just say “watch out!” and leave it at that.  Couch and foot stool, kitties, a glass of wine, and American Idol.  Aaahhh…

I had a pleasant phone interview this morning with Rebekah Denn, well know food critique and award winning journalist.  She is writing an article about home deliveries for the Seattle’s Child Magazine.  It will appear most likely in the April issue, so take a peak if you have a chance to do so!

Bon Apetit!

Curried Carrot Soup it is!  Oh, I can just taste it now….. curry spices roasted in olive oil, sweet organic carrots caramelized, slow cooked and then pureed and finished with yogurt.  Youch!  So good!  Bon Apetit!
